Sharad Pawar, the leader of the NCP, came under fire on Thursday from Maharashtra BJP President Chandrashekhar Bawankule for the circumstances surrounding the short-lived administration in 2019. He said that it was Pawar’s last “googly” and that none of his current ideas would succeed.
Speaking to a local TV station, Bawankule said that Sharad Pawar turned NCP leader Ajit Pawar into a “scapegoat” after the latter teamed up with BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis to create a cabinet that disintegrated after 80 hours.
Ajit Pawar was sworn in as deputy chief minister on November 23, 2019, while Fadnavis was sworn in as chief minister, however their administration did not survive long.
Sharad Pawar allegedly agreed to form a government with the BJP, according to Fadnavis, the current deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, who backed out at the last minute. The former Union minister stated in Pune that he knows “where and when to bowl a googly” in response to Fadnavis’ assertion.
The NCP leader said, “So, without playing cricket, I knew where and when to bowl a googly.” His father-in-law was a googly bowler (Test player Sadu Shinde), and he (Pawar) was the ICC chairman. According to Bawankule, Pawar has a history of going whatever it takes to get power.
“Pawar had made many attempts to work with the BJP in 2014 in order to gain power, and in 2019 he concocted a political plot. He attempted to ruin his nephew Ajit Pawar’s political career by including him in the plot. By doing so, he cast doubt on Ajit Pawar in the eyes of the public and the NCP, according to Bawankule.
In response to Sharad Pawar’s snide remark, the BJP leader said that it was his last “googly”. From from point forth, only the Devendra Fadnavis administration will function in Maharashtra, he said, and none of Pawar’s googly will.
