On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised ISRO for completing the Reusable Launch Vehicle Autonomous Landing Mission (RLV LEX) successfully. He said that this accomplishment brings India one step closer to developing its own reusable launch vehicle.

The Aeronautical Test Range (ATR) near Chitradurga in Karnataka is where the test was carried out, according to the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). According to a statement, “with that, ISRO successfully accomplished the autonomous landing of a space spacecraft.”

The space agency said that LEX brought the idea of an Indian reusable launch vehicle “one step closer to reality.” A terrific team effort, Modi tweeted in response to the news. This accomplishment brings the idea of an Indian Reusable Launch Vehicle one step closer to reality.

A winged body has been lifted by a helicopter to a height of 4.5 kilometers and then released to make history by performing the first ever autonomous runway touchdown. RLV is basically a space aircraft with a low lift to drag ratio that needs an approach at high glide angles and a 350 kmph landing speed.
