During his Friday visit to Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled and laid the cornerstones for a number of projects totaling around Rs. 14,300 crore.
The Prime Minister can be seen visiting a number of events in a 3-minute video that he has uploaded, including a road show, the massive Bihu festivities, the inauguration of AIIMS Guwahati, etc.
During a ceremony on Friday in Assam, he devoted the country to three more medical schools as well as the first hospital in the northeast, AIIMS Guwahati. He also launched the “Aapke Dwar Ayushman” campaign by giving eligible recipients Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) cards.
Almost 11,000 Bihu dancers performed a massive Bihu dance on the occasion of Bohag Bihu at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati, where he presided over a public event. He staged a massive roadshow from Basistha to Sarusajai in Guwahati.
With the “biggest Bihu dance and largest dhol drum group,” the state established two Guinness World Records on Friday. 11,304 performers took part in the Bihu dance, while 2,548 performers played the dhol (drum). Rishi Nath, a Guinness adjudicator, presented CM Sarma with a certificate for his record-breaking performance.
Speaking to a large crowd in Guwahati, Modi stated, “There is a new phenomena today. Some folks become quite nervous whenever I talk about the changes that have occurred in the nation during the last nine years. They gripe that they too had dominated the nation for many years, so why can’t they take credit for the expansion?
According to Modi, the “hunger for credit” and the notion of “rules” have harmed the nation. He said that past administrations had an alienating view of the North East because it was seen as a “faraway area.”
“The people of the North East have stepped up to grasp the reins of development in their own hands and are pushing forward with development as their slogan,” he remarked, expressing his satisfaction.
Moreover, Assam Petrochemicals Ltd.’s (APL) 500 TPD capacity methanol factory in Namrup in Dibrugarh, which was built at a cost of 1,709 crore, was virtually commissioned by Modi.
Together with the state chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, he also spoke at the Gauhati High Court’s platinum jubilee festivities at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati later in the day.
He said that the judiciary must be “powerful and sympathetic” if Indians are to realise their aspirations in the twenty-first century.
