On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will fly to Italy to take part in the 50th G7 Summit. Modi is anticipated to meet separately with Giorgia Meloni, the prime minister of Italy, while he is in the country. The prime minister is travelling abroad for the first time as he begins his third consecutive term in power.

“India has been invited as an Outreach Country to the 50th G7 Summit, which will be held in Apulia, Italy on June 14th, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be travelling there tomorrow to participate in it at the invitation of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni,” foreign secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra stated on Wednesday.

“This will be the prime minister’s first trip abroad in his third consecutive term in power. Additionally, it would give him a chance to discuss matters of concern to both India and the Global South with other international leaders in attendance at the G7 Summit,” he continued.

Kwatra added that PM Modi will be attending the G7 Summit for the fifth time in a row and that this will be India’s eleventh attendance overall.

He stated that with PM Modi attending the G7 Summit, there will be a chance to discuss the results of the G20 Summit, which India presided over last year.

“The prime minister’s participation in the G7 Summit would also provide a timely opportunity to follow up on outcomes of the G20 Summit held under India’s presidency last year and deliberate on issues which are significant for the Global South,” he stated.

Along with the other nations invited to the Outreach Summit on June 14, Modi will take part in the Outreach session.

Africa, the Mediterranean, energy, and artificial intelligence will be the main topics of discussion during this session. The foreign secretary stated, “It will be a block agenda item where the G7 and the Outreach Countries will share their views and perspectives.”

PM Modi was in Hiroshima for the G7 conference last year. On the fringes of the meeting, he had conversations with world leaders like Zelenskyy.

The G7 meeting

From June 13 to June 15, the G7 meeting will take place at the opulent Borgo Egnazia resort in the Apulia region of Italy. The US, UK, France, Italy, Germany, Canada, and Japan make up the G7.
Among the prominent leaders present at the summit are US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

There will also be a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy over the Russian invasion of his nation.

According to PTI, the ongoing war in Ukraine and the crisis in Gaza are expected to take centre stage during the conference.
