Days after Tamil actor and DMDK founder-leader Vijayakanth died away in Chennai, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his respects to the actor-turned-politician on Tuesday, describing him as a “Captain” not just in politics but also in the film industry.

We lost Thiru Vijayakanth ji a few days ago. In the political sphere as well as the film industry, he was a commander. He made a name for himself in the film industry and won people over. He consistently prioritized the interests of the country before anything else as a politician. “In Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, I pay my tributes to him and extend my condolences to his family and admirers,” the prime minister said.

Right now, Prime Minister Modi is visiting Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep for two days in order to officially launch many billion-dollar development projects. The Prime Minister inaugurated and lay the foundation stone for many development projects and opened the new terminal at Trichy airport after a warm welcome from MK Stalin, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu.

Additionally, he was a main guest at the 38th Convocation Ceremony of Bharathidasan University in Tiruchirapalli. The prime minister was seen on stage with MK Stalin, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, and the leader of the DMK at both ceremonies.

Stalin is notably one of the leading figures of the INDIA alliance, which was established with the intention of unseating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from power in the next Lok Sabha elections.
