Mumbai: Dharavi Island in Borivali is one of the few remaining villages in Mumbai, and these citizens have not been provided with basic facilities. While there are no facilities like drinking water, hospital, ambulance, college, on the other hand, as the development of this island is going on in terms of tourism, the residents of this place are afraid that the locals will be wiped out. Therefore, the citizens of this place are going to march against the administrative policy today, Wednesday at 11 am at the ‘R-Madhya’ department office.
Citizens of this island earn self-employment on the basis of agriculture, horticulture, fishing. On this island, the government is going to build a bridge over the Gorai and Manori bays, and the locals fear that this will destroy the natural environment of the island. Locals are expressing fear of increasing slums on this island, destroying mangrove forests and creating slums there.
A metro carshed will also be constructed on the Gorai Uttan border. A dumping ground on the hills of Uttan, a water treatment plant at Manori, are threatening the daily life of the locals. They are also afraid that the lands here will be grabbed. This march has been organized to protest against this development plan creating a hindrance in the livelihood of the locals.
