In solidarity with Kulwinder Kaur, a CISF woman constable who was suspended after assaulting Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, MP-elect Kangana Ranaut at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport in Chandigarh on June 6, farmer unions will stage the “Insaaf March” in Mohali on June 9. Starting at Amb Sahib Gurudwara in Phase 8, Mohali, the march is planned to start at 10 AM and head towards the SSP office situated in Sector 76.
To demonstrate their support for Kaur, Bhartiya Kisan Naujawan Union, Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, and Samyukta Kisan Morch—a non-political organisation—will spearhead the demonstration. Notably, Kaur was charged with violating Sections 323 and 341 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in response to a CISF complaint.
The leader of SKM, Jagjit Singh Dallewal, made the following declaration during a news conference: “We will tell him that there should be no injustice with the woman constable, and we will demand a proper investigation.” To request a thorough investigation into the situation, Dallewal and Sarwan Singh Pandher, general secretary of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, have scheduled a meeting with Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav.
Kaur was placed on leave almost immediately following the June 6 incident. Her spouse is a Jammu-based CISF official as well.
Attack on Kangana Ranaut
Kangana Ranaut, the MP-elect from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, was due to depart from Chandigarh’s Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport on June 6. Kulwinder Kaur slapped her during a security check and explained why she did it, claiming that Ranaut’s claim that Punjabi women were sitting at protests in exchange for money had irritated her during farmer protests. Kaur said that at that moment, her mother was also seated at the protest location.
Her brother, Sher Singh, spoke out in favour of her in this regard. Sher Singh Mahiwal, the brother of Kaur, is the organisational secretary of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee and also heads a group of farmers. Her mother spoke forward as well to support her daughter. His group is one of the three spearheading the pro-Kulwinder Kaur demonstrations on June 9. Veer Kaur, her mother, defended her daughter’s conduct, saying that everything she did was perfectly acceptable. She said that her kid wouldn’t have done this if Kangana hadn’t provoked her by using offensive language.
In a statement, CISF top officer Vinay Kajla, who is currently DIG CISF, Airports (North Sector), claimed that Kulwinder’s actions were motivated by a “rush of blood” after she became enraged by Ranaut’s remarks during farmer protests. He asserted that Kulwinder had shown regret and understood the harm she had done to CISF.
It seems like the family is now attempting to downplay Kulwinder Kaur’s reckless and harmful behaviour. According to the Tribune report, Kulwinder’s spouse informed DIG Kajla that fifteen days prior, a young girl had approached her, asking for a picture. Kulwinder complied and gave the girl a chocolate. Such narratives are frequently used to decry criminal activity. Kulwinder’s spouse is allegedly also on a brief leave of absence.
Kulwinder was not intended to be at the location where the incident occurred, according to DIG Kajla himself. At the time of the occurrence, Ranaut was walking through a nearby location while she was posted in the frisking zone. “Kulwinder was not supposed to be there,” he added, adding that she just learned of the MP’s presence from a Punjab Police officer. The event happened outside of a cubicle. We have a digital record of everything that occurs within the airport. The protocol for this individual is being reviewed by the CISF.
It’s evident that Kulwinder Kaur broke the law by quitting her job at the airport and slapping a freshly elected MP while she was still in uniform, endangering the safety of other travellers in the “rush of blood.”
