Following the recent terrible floods that rocked Punjab, 41 people died and 1,616 are currently residing in 173 rescue shelters, according to authorities on Tuesday. The floods had an impact on 19 districts, including Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Faridkot, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar, Kapurthala, Patiala, Moga, Ludhiana, SAS Nagar, Jalandhar, Sangrur, SBS Nagar, Fazilka, Gurdaspur, Mansa, Bathinda, and Pathankot.
27,286 individuals were rescued from flooded regions by the government and rescue organizations, according to the authorities. Reports from the revenue department indicate that 41 persons perished in the floods. The recent torrential rain devastated many regions in Punjab and Haryana, paralyzing everyday life and flooding significant areas of agricultural and residential land.
According to Punjab Power Minister Harbhajan Singh, all 595 flood-affected locations now have access to power. The most severely impacted districts were Rupnagar, SAS Nagar, Patiala, and Sangrur, he said, adding that the floods had damaged the infrastructure of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL).
The electricity supply in the affected regions has been significantly impacted by the destruction of infrastructure, impairing vital services. The impacted regions’ power supply was restored after 24-hour efforts by the PSPCL staff, according to the minister.
According to him, PSPCL officials had listed their top priorities for power restoration, with hospitals, medical institutions, communications, and water supply receiving the greatest priority.
According to the ministry, infrastructure damage cost PSPCL an estimated Rs 16 crore in losses. Uprooted poles, broken transformers, and flooded substations have all caused damage to the machinery and electricity lines, according to Singh. Twenty 66 KV substations were flooded around the state, seriously harming the infrastructure.
