The Punjab Police said on Sunday that one of its largest narcotics seizures to date resulted in the seizure of 77 kg of heroin from four suspects in a trans-border drug smuggling ring.

According to Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, the seizure was conducted by the Counter Intelligence Wing, Ferozepur, in two different operations. He said that three handguns had also been taken from the smugglers by police.

“One of 2023’s largest heroin seizures: “Counter Intelligence, #Ferozepur, has apprehended 4 drug traffickers in two separate intelligence-led operations and recovered 77kg of heroin (41kg+36kg) and three pistols,” the DGP tweeted.

The modules were heavily engaged in Punjab’s trans-border and inter-state narcotics smuggling, he said. In conjunction with the seizures, cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act were filed in Fazilka, and more research is being done, according to Yadav.
