Rape case against Jindal false: police in closure report

In a closure report submitted to the court on Saturday, the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) police claimed that the rape complainant had attempted to frame the managing director of the JSW Group, Sajjan Jindal, and that the rape case against him was untrue.

The complainant met Jindal in October 2021 in Dubai; after that, they exchanged phone numbers because he was interested in purchasing real estate from her brother, a real estate consultant in Dubai, according to the police. She filed a police complaint, claiming the businessman had sexually assaulted her within the JSW Group headquarters in January 2022. “When we first met alone, he started addressing me as ‘babe’ and ‘baby’ and described all the problems in his marriage, which made me very awkward,” she added. Uncomfortable were his embraces and flirtations with me.

On December 13, 2023, a first information report was filed under sections 376 (rape), 354 (outraging modesty of a woman), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code in response to the woman’s complaint.

The complainant had pledged to provide proof of Jindal’s guilt in court, but she had not followed through, according to the closure report submitted to Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate Court number 18. The investigating officer had also ordered her to appear in court to record her statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, but she had ignored the repeated warnings.

The report also stated that during the investigation, it was discovered that Jindal did not even go to the allegedly visited and attempted to molest the complainant on December 24, 2021, at a five-star hotel in the city; this was verified by testimony from witnesses and correspondence with the hotel.
