The West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her Bihar colleague Nitish Kumar have delayed their key meeting for Monday.
At first, state secretariat sources said that the meeting would take place on Tuesday at Banerjee’s home in South Kolkata, Kalighat.
However, Nitish Kumar will only spend a short time in Kolkata on Monday, and the meeting will take place in Nabanna’s state secretariat rather than the Chief Minister’s house, a state government official said.
After his quick visit to Kolkata, Nitish Kumar is reportedly going to go to Lucknow, where he would meet Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party.
In preparation for the 2024 elections, Mamata Banerjee and Nitish Kumar have both worked hard to bring the opposition together.
However, there has been a fundamental disagreement between the two leaders’ strategies on this point.
On the one hand, Banerjee’s plan of action hasn’t worked out so far, while Nitish Kumar’s strategy is different.
She and Akhilesh Yadav met last month in Kalighat, and during their conversation, the two leaders decided to keep their distance from the Congress and concentrate instead on uniting the regional forces to fight the BJP in 2024.
On the other hand, the Bihar Chief Minister also spoke with Mallikarjun Kharge in an effort to bring the opposition together.
Mamata Banerjee visited Odisha shortly after meeting Akhilesh and met with Naveen Patnaik there.
H.D. Kumaraswamy, the head of the Janata Dal (Secular), then paid a visit to Kolkata where he met Banerjee.
Banerjee spoke with M.K. Stalin, her counterpart in Tamil Nadu, last week to discuss the cohesion of the opposition’s forces against the governors’ influence in the states.
