Two drones fired from Ukraine were shot down over the Kursk area by Russian air defense systems, the Russian defense ministry said early on Monday on the messaging app Telegram.
Russia’s southern Kursk area has a western border with Ukraine.
Reuters was unable to independently confirm the claim. Ukraine did not immediately respond with a statement. Almost seldom does Kiev take credit for an assault on Russian soil or on Ukrainian territory under Russian control.
