US President Joe Biden departed for India on Thursday to take part in the historic summit, which will be presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as preparations for the G20 meeting in New Delhi, which will begin on September 9, are in full gear.
Biden will be visiting India for the first time as the president of the United States, and he has a number of topics on his agenda, including the Ukraine, important and developing technologies, and some agreements that have already been announced, including the ones for drones with General Atomics and jet engines with General Electric.
The President stated in a statement on ‘X,’ previously Twitter, “I’m headed to the G20 – the premier forum for international economic cooperation – focused on making progress on Americans’ priorities, delivering for developing nations, and showing our commitment to the G20 as a forum that can deliver.”
meeting between Biden and Modi
The White House reports that Biden will land in New Delhi this evening and that he will meet with Prime Minister Modi in person today. The two leaders will probably examine the outcomes of the choices they made during Prime Minister Modi’s formal state visit to Washington in June during their meeting.
The G20 and the Russia-Ukraine conflict, as well as previous nuclear, energy, and other agreements between the two nations, are among the key topics on their agenda. Prior to his departure, John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communication at the White House National Security Council, told media that Biden’s priorities would be to increase economic opportunity for developing nations, make progress on issues that are important to the American people, such as technology and climate change, and demonstrate the US’ commitment to the G20 as a workable, if not essential, forum to address these issues.
On Friday, PM Modi is also set to have separate bilateral talks with the prime ministers of Mauritius, Pravind Jugnauth, and Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina.
