Mumbai Indians defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in their fifth game of IPL 2023 to earn their third straight victory. Mumbai knocked their opponents out for 178 while defending a score of 192 on the difficult Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium ground, where quick bowlers excelled. With Cameron Green hitting a fifty, the hitters took the initiative initially.
When Sunrisers were asked to chase 193 at their place of residence, they were very much in the chase thanks to the resumption of scoring by Mayank Agarwal, who served as the pursuit’s anchor. He managed to hold one end as the wickets dropped and hit 48 off 41 balls to keep his side in the game. In the middle overs, Heinrich Klaasen supplied fire, but he was outmatched and SRH fell behind.
Before the death overs neared and the needed rate read about 12, Marco Jansen and Abdul Samad joined. The Proteas player attempted to release his hands but Meredith quickly outperformed him as Mumbai exercised tighter control. SRH started losing wickets in the last few overs. Arjun Tendulkar secured the victory in the last over by reducing SRH to 148, earning him his maiden IPL wicket.
Earlier, Mumbai Indians finished the 20 overs with 192/5 on to Cameron Green’s brilliant knock. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan provided a strong start for MI. But Natarajan swiftly captured the former. Green and Kishan took over, but Marco Jansen outperformed the Southpaw. While Mumbai were under pressure, Hyderabad quickly sent Suryakumar Yadav back as well. But, in the middle overs and subsequently the last overs, Mumbai received much-needed strength from the youngster Tilak Varma and the Australian International Green. Varma showed off his strong performance by hitting a 17-ball 37 after the team reached 95/3 in 11.5 overs. On a relatively sluggish surface, Green then launched an onslaught late in the game to help MI score over par.
