The North Central Railway Zone has been requested by the Railway Board to increase the punctuality of the trains that originate from or travel through it.
NCR, which has long had a sterling reputation for keeping trains on time, has recently recorded low punctuality performance as some trains have failed to keep to their scheduled operating times.
The Railway Board informed the Senior Chief Operations Manager of NCR in a correspondence that it had been noticed that NCR’s punctuality performance was on the decline.
“Board demands that NCR adopt corrective steps for timely running of trains, continuously monitor punctual running of postal express trains from point to point, control asset failures, and enhance repair time of faults,” it said.
Anand Swaroop, Divisional Railway Manager for NCR’s Agra division, cited ongoing infrastructure development as the cause of the trains’ inability to operate smoothly.
When asked to comment on the email from the Board, Swaroop responded, “A lot of infrastructure development is going on in the division.
“The construction is almost complete, therefore this is merely a temporary phase that will end shortly. After all the projects are finished, we will demonstrate even more timeliness, according to NCR Chief Public Relations Officer Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay.
The NCR zone, which includes the divisions of Prayagraj, Jhansi, and Agra, has the greatest punctuality rate of all of the country’s 17 railway zones in March 2022 with 93.20 percent.
