Ruturaj Gaikwad, India’s newly selected captain, is thrilled to lead his country in the 2023 Asian Games and has his sights set on a gold medal.
Due to the regional competition clashing with the ODI World Cup in 2023, BCCI has nominated a reserve team.
Between September 28 and October 8, Hangzhou will host a men’s T20 cricket tournament.
Cricket was introduced to the Asian Games in 2014, although India was not a participating nation. This time, they will include both men’s and women’s teams.
The new leader longs for a gold medal and is eager to step on the platform and sing his nation’s national song.
In a video posted by BCCI, a beaming Gaikwad said, “The dream will be to win a gold medal, stand on the platform, and listen to the National anthem for the nation.
The talented batsman is a member of India’s Test team traveling to the West Indies. He has played for them nine times in T20Is and has so far appeared in one ODI.
“We will play a brand of cricket that would make everyone back home proud,” the player said of the possibility.
Being a member of the team that competes for the nation and wins a medal in the Asian Games would be extremely wonderful.
The cricket player for Maharashtra believes it would be a unique experience to compete with the nation’s best athletes, and winning a gold medal will be the icing on the cake.
“We always grew up watching it on television, seeing players win it for the nation. It will be amazing to have the chance, compete, and take home the medal, he continued.
The star batter said, “Playing for India is a proud experience in and of itself, and leading the side in such a large tournament will be a tremendous chance for me, as well as all the squad members who are with me.
Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Jitesh Sharma are a few of the young main performers that will appear in the event.
