Before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state, Telangana MP and state BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar was taken into custody from his Karimnagar home after midnight on Wednesday.
According to the BJP, Bandi Sanjay Kumar was arrested on “fabricated” claims of being responsible for a secondary school document leak.
Bandi Sanjay Kumar was apparently taken into custody by a police squad when they reportedly arrived at his Karimnagar home. The MP’s followers and party members attempted to halt the police, escalating the situation.
Bandi Sanjay was shown in footage that emerged being pulled by police officers before being forced to sit into a police vehicle. He allegedly went to the police station in Bommala Ramaram in the Nalgaunda district.
“In a midnight operation, Telangana police has arrested BJP state president Bandi Sanjay Kumar on bogus accusations of being engaged in secondary school paper leak,” said BJP leader Amit Malviya in a tweet that also included a video criticizing CM K Chandrashekar Rao.
KCR won’t do well in the end, Malviya said.
Premender Reddy, the general secretary of the BJP in the state, said that Bandi Sanjay had been arrested by police well after midnight. He has been unlawfully kidnapped from his Karimnagar home.
Where would Bandi Sanjay go if they had started any judicial proceedings in the morning? This is just being done to obstruct Telangana’s PM Modi initiative, according to Reddy.
“Why did this action against a member of Parliament need to be taken at midnight? Which crime and case are involved? They don’t provide any information to us. To Bhongir he is being transported. How come he’s being brought there? Reddy asked further questions.
“We are speaking out against the KCR administration over the matter of the question paper leak, which is why we are taking this action. All of this is against ‘Democracy,’ he said.
Telangana BJP leaders said that a statewide protest will begin after the imprisonment.
The change occurs barely a few days before PM Modi’s visit to the state. On April 8, PM Modi is slated to go to Telangana to launch a number of other construction projects as well as the Vande Bharat Express railway from Secunderabad to Tirupati.
