In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) demanded an urgent conference with the governments of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi to address the fall in business in Delhi owing to air pollution, even during the holiday season.
According to CTI Chairperson Brijesh Goyal, pollution is the reason why business is down even during the holiday season. He sent a letter to Prime Minister Modi requesting that the federal government take decisive action against air pollution in coordination with the other governments, failing which business will suffer.
People are avoiding coming to the markets to buy since the air quality in the nation’s capital has gotten to the “severe” level.
Once estimated to have been between 3 and 4 lakh, the number of persons from NCR traveling to Delhi has now dropped to one lakh.
“Now that the wedding season is approaching, there is good foot traffic in the market,” said the Chairman of CTI. Customers visit Delhi from other cities as well. Nowadays, the pollution makes people desire to stay away from the area. Many folks are experiencing respiratory difficulties.
The CTI said that the AQI level has reached the severe category and that only the Central Government can find a solution to it. It added that pollution is an issue not only in Delhi but also in NCR areas like Noida, Faridabad, Gurgaon, and Sonipat.
The Delhi government is making every effort, but the CTI said that the Delhi government cannot eradicate pollution in the Delhi-NCR on its own.
Delhi NCR would not be able to eradicate pollution unless the governments of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Delhi collaborate, it continued.
Therefore, in its letter, the CTI asked the Prime Minister to hold an emergency conference in which the governments of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab would be present.
In order to address the continuing pollution problem and find a solution, the CTI has issued a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting an urgent meeting with the leaders of the affected states and the Environment Minister.
In order to save enterprises from incurring a loss, the CTI also asked in its letter that the Central Government take firm action against air pollution in coordination with all the state governments that are affected.
The government has the full support of the 20 lakh merchants in Delhi, and all market groups in the city would work with it if it sets varied times for the markets to open, according to CTI.
