Sachin Tendulkar, a legendary player in Indian cricket, will be honored by the Election Commission of India as a National Icon. On Wednesday, August 23, there will be a celebration in honor of Tendulkar’s selection by the Election Commission as the nation’s idol at the Rang Bhawan Auditorium in New Delhi.

In his long cricket career, Sachin Tendulkar has played in 200 Test matches for India, the most of any player. He scored 15,921 runs with a best score of 248*, a remarkable average of 53.78, 51 centuries, and 68 half-centuries.

Tendulkar played in 463 One Day International (ODI) games, scoring 18,426 runs with an average of 44.83 and a strike rate of 86.23. His astounding accomplishments include 96 half-centuries and 49 centuries, with a top score of 200*, becoming him the first player to strike a double century in an ODI. Tendulkar now maintains the record for most runs scored in both forms.

He scored an astounding 34,357 runs over the course of 664 games, with an average of 48.52 and a strike rate of over 67. His astounding total of 100 centuries across all mediums is complimented by 164 half-centuries. Tendulkar is still the only player to have 100 international hundreds and the leading run scorer in the annals of international cricket.

The former cricketer competed in six World Cups throughout the course of his stellar career and was a crucial member of the Indian team that won the 2011 World Cup.
