The Labour Ministry of Maharashtra notifies India’s largest IT company, TCS, of a delay in recruiting

The labor and employment ministry of Maharashtra has sent a warning to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), the biggest IT services business in India, over the company’s tardiness in onboarding lateral hires, as per a story published in Business Standard. The Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), a union representing IT workers in Pune, filed the case in July 2023.

The NITES complaint claims that the delay in lateral recruitment has affected over 200 workers.

“A joint meeting between the company and the complainant will be held to address the issue on November 2, 2023, at noon,” the Maharashtra Labor Ministry said in its notification.

A firm representative with legitimate documentation must be present at the meeting location, according to the NITES in the notification.

“NITES has drawn attention to the plight of these employees who, in good faith, resigned from their previous positions after receiving employment offers and joining dates from TCS,” said NITES President Harpreet Saluja in a statement. These professionals, whose years of experience range from 1.8 to 15 years, are now unemployed, in financial hardship, and unable to support their families.

He said that there are now supposedly more than 2,000 of them. The figure could not, however, be independently verified.

“I have completed all interview rounds, and the human resource (HR) department sent me the salary breakdown via email for acknowledgement,” the impacted person is quoted as saying in a Business Standard story. HR promised to issue the offer letter in a week once I agreed to the compensation parameters. Despite many calls to HR over the last four months, they say it’s on hold and will take additional time. Because to TCS, I have already quit and am now jobless.

In the September 2023 quarter, TCS had 6,333 fewer employees. As of September 30 of current year, the total number of workers was Rs 608,985, down from 6,15,318.

In the September 2023 quarter, its attrition rate for IT services was 14.9% for the twelfth month, which is less than in prior quarters.

In an October 11 analysts’ call after the Q2 results, TCS Chief Human Resources Officer Milind Lakkad discussed the recruiting plans, saying, “Our strategy of proactively hiring bright freshers and investing in training them with the right skills is paying off now.” We were able to recalculate our gross additions, keeping them below the departures for the quarter, increasing productivity, and improving project results with that talent coming on stream and with lower attrition.

The corporation is adjusting its recruiting plans, even though he did not state clearly whether or not the company was visiting colleges for hiring.
