A meeting of Mumbai MLAs and senior leaders took place on Saturday night at the residence of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. All the MPs, MLAs and prominent leaders of Mumbai were called in this meeting. Some MLAs who attended the meeting told that the upcoming BMC elections were discussed in the meeting. Information was taken from the MLAs about the pending projects in their constituencies. After the meeting, the BJP MLAs did not understand whether Fadnavis’s target was the BMC elections or the upcoming assembly elections. Administrator has been appointed in BMC for one year and three months i.e. for the last 15 months. The Administrator i.e. BMC Commissioner is under the State Government. All the works in the wards are being done on the directions of the state government. In such a situation, who is in a hurry for BMC elections?
In such a situation, the question arises that then why the convention of meeting in the name of BMC elections? According to an MLA, all corporators have been sitting at home for the last 15 months. He is dissatisfied with the fact that he has to hold a court every day at the MLAs to get their work done to remain among the public in the area. To reduce the same dissatisfaction, a false indication of BMC elections is being given by holding a meeting at Fadnavis’s house.
The matter of BMC elections is still pending in the Supreme Court. The second monsoon is on the head. October-November will be the festival season and Diwali holidays. In such a situation, many people will be out of Mumbai. Meanwhile, the Assembly Speaker may also have to give a decision on the issue of eligibility or ineligibility of Shiv Sena (Shinde) MLAs within the limits of the Supreme Court guidelines. If the Speaker does not give a decision in ‘reasonable time’, Shiv Sena (Uddhav) can move the Supreme Court against it. The Supreme Court in its previous judgment had termed the decision to recognize the Shinde faction as illegal. Also, the Supreme Court has said that the splinter group cannot claim the original party.
In such a situation, the decision of the Election Commission is also at stake. If there is a decision of the Speaker of the Assembly or the Supreme Court in so many troubles, then the wave of sympathy towards Uddhav Thackeray, which is already going on, can gain momentum again. Meanwhile, by the end of the monsoon, the assembly elections of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Manipur will come. How will BMC elections be held in such an environment?
