After not getting off to a strong start in India’s record 228-run victory over Pakistan in an Asia Cup Super Four game on Monday, Virat Kohli stated that his 47th ODI hundred is a typical example of playing second fiddle.

However, after scoring an undefeated 122 off only 94 balls, Kohli dubbed those singles and doubles “easy runs” despite the fact that his lightning-quick pace between the wickets was mostly due to his exceptional health.

It was a classic Kohli hundred in which he started off slowly before picking up the pace near the conclusion of the innings with 38 singles and 15 twos.

“I constantly practiced so that I could benefit the squad. Today was a perfect illustration of what happens when you don’t start off well. When questioned about his knock, Kohli said, “KL began well. I was trying to get him on strike and playing second fiddle.

“Yes, I did step up where I could after that. I’m quite proud of my physical fitness. Running for doubles is simple compared to taking a huge shot. I’m hoping it will continue to pay off the same way it has in the past,” he said.

In response to a question on his partnership with Rahul, Kohli stated: “KL and I are both traditional players. It’s also difficult to break these partnerships when he bats like he did and I play because we don’t play fancy shots.

“The goal was to “keep batting,” so we didn’t give the partnership much thought. One of the most enduring relationships we’ve ever had, and for Indian cricket as well, is this one. He immediately returned to form for us, which is fantastic for us heading into the World Cup.

India may finish up playing three straight days when they take on Sri Lanka here on Tuesday due to rain. After just 24.1 overs were available on Sunday, they easily defeated Pakistan by a margin of 228 runs on the reserve day.

After a tremendous knock, Kohli was obviously exhausted, but on Tuesday, he will be prepared.

In my 15 years of playing cricket, this is the first time I have ever done anything (play back-to-back ODIs). Fortunately, because we are Test players, we are aware of how to return the next day and play. Recovery is important. There was a lot of humidity today. I need to focus on my rehabilitation since I turn 35 in November.

When questioned about entering the field in less than 24 hours, he said, “A huge shout-out to the ground crew from my side.
