The demand for the resignation of the Railway Minister is gaining momentum after the Odisha train accident. Many leaders across the country have demanded the resignation of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav. Meanwhile, NCP chief Sharad Pawar has demanded an inquiry into the Balasore train accident in Odisha.
In this horrific train accident, at least 288 people have died and more than 1000 people have been injured. When asked about the demand for the resignation of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on moral grounds after the accident, Sharad Pawar cited the example of the contemporaneous Railway Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri’s resignation after a train accident. Citing the example of Lal Bahadur Shastri’s resignation, Sharad Pawar said that those in power should do whatever is appropriate. Pawar told reporters that according to the information, at least 2,000 passengers were affected in this horrific accident caused by a collision between Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, Coromandel Express and a goods train.`
It is an accident and everyone has demanded an inquiry. Let the facts come out, only then any advice can be given. On some political parties demanding resignation of Railway Minister Vaishnav, the NCP chief said when Lal Bahadur Shastri was Railway Minister, an accident took place. At that time Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru was against his decision to resign, but Shastriji felt that it was his moral obligation to leave the post. Pawar said the whole country knows this example and those in power should do what they think is right.
