According to a police officer on Thursday, the Mumbai Crime Branch has foiled an inter-state scheme that included buying used dump trucks and reselling them after refurbishment by registering them with the Virar and Vasai RTOs in the nearby Palghar district.
Ten such dumper trucks with outdated registration certificates that were auctioned for between Rs. 10-15 lakh were confiscated by a Unit IV Crime Branch squad.
“These dumpers were purchased as junk by the racketeers from Kalamboli in Navi Mumbai. Following repairs, they would re-register the cars with the RTOs in Vasai and Virar and get an NOC for these vehicles from Arunachal Pradesh. “There have been three arrests made,” he said.
