In Agartala, Following the murder of a tribal youth in a group clash, authorities in Tripura’s Dhalai district imposed prohibitory orders, which led to the burning of many stores and damage to dwellings, police said on Saturday.

The 19-year-old college student died on Friday at GBP Hospital in this city. On July 7, he was involved in a fight at Gandatwisa in the Dhalai area and suffered serious injuries.

Following the arson on Friday, more police officers have been stationed in the community, and local Internet access has been cut off. According to authorities, four people have been taken into custody over the young person’s death.

Police reports claim that Parmeshwar Reang went to the Gandatwisa market with his buddies to attend a fair held in honour of Rath Yatra.

“Abruptly, a fight broke out between two groups of kids, and Reang was seriously hurt. After being brought to Gandatwisa hospital, his condition deteriorated and he was eventually sent to GBP hospital. On Friday, he passed away from his wounds,” Dhalai SP Avinash Rai told PTI.

When his body was returned to Gandatwisa, which is around 110 kilometres from Agartala, feelings ran high, and some homes and businesses were vandalised out of rage. Four people have been taken into custody for the homicide. To stop things from getting worse, prohibitive orders have been put into place in Gandatwisa, and there is more police presence there,” he continued.

Rai stated that a peace meeting was arranged by the Gandatwisa SDM to reduce tensions and that things are now under control.

Leader of Tipra Motha Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma demanded justice and denounced the youth’s murder.

“I vehemently denounce Parmeshwar Reang’s murder at Gandatwisa. I have personally negotiated with high-ranking police officers, insisting that the offenders be charged in accordance with applicable sections. I pray for harmony and implore everyone to exercise moderation. I’ll be going to see the family myself,” he posted on Facebook.
