Tripura: Befriended A Minor Through Facebook, Later Gang-Raped In A Park; One Accused Arrested

A minor girl was gang-raped by three youths in South Tripura. The incident is of Tepaniya Eco Park. The accused of rape is only 21 years old. The accused had befriended the minor through Facebook. After this incident, the police arrested the 21-year-old accused from his house in East Gokulpur. Two other accused involved in the incident are still absconding.

According to the information, the main accused pressurized the girl to meet him at Tepaniya Eco Park. When she came there, he clicked some pictures of the girl despite her refusal. As soon as the girl realized that she was being blackmailed, she tried to run away.

Udaipur Sub-Divisional Magistrate Nirupam Dutta said that the main accused forcibly took the 17-year-old minor to the forest and raped her. The associates of the accused also supported him in this. While returning home, the trio threw the victim out of the car in Rajarbagh area and fled.

The victim reached her home and informed the family about the incident, after which a case was registered at RKpur Mahila Police Station. During investigation, it was revealed that the victim and the accused were friends on Facebook for six months. During this, the accused had also hide his identity from the victim.

Condemning the incident, Tripura Women’s Commission Chairperson Barnali Goswami said that we are seeing that a section of youth is trapping minor girls through social media platforms. We need to make school and college going girls aware of the ill effects of befriending through social media. Sub Divisional Magistrate Datta said that the investigation in the matter is on and all efforts are being made to nab the absconding accused.
