Mallikarjun Kharge, the president of the Indian National Congress, criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) administration on Wednesday for allowing children who tested positive for HIV, Hepatitis B, and C to get blood transfusions at a hospital in Uttar Pradesh. According to Kharge, the kids were “innocent children suffering the punishment for an unforgivable crime” the saffron party had perpetrated.

Our healthcare system now treats twice as many illnesses as it used to. 14 thalassemia patients at a government hospital in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, received infected blood.

The children thus acquired risky illnesses including HIV, AIDS, and Hepatitis B and C. Kharge noted on X, “It is regrettable that there has been such flagrant negligence.

14 children getting blood transfusions tested positive for HIV and hepatitis on Monday at the state-run Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR) Hospital in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, in a shocking revelation. Doctors assert that the children now stand a higher risk of contracting another illness on top of the Thalassemia that first necessitated the transfusions.

The 180 thalassemia patients getting blood transfusions at the center include the 14 youngsters, whose ages vary from 6 to 16. HIV, Hepatitis C, and Hepatitis B were all detected in seven of the affected youngsters.

Several states, including Kannauj, Kanpur City, Dehat, Farrukhabad, Auraiya, and Etawah, are listed as the origins of the children.

The Viral Hepatitis Control Programme requires district-level authorities to determine the infection’s origin. An official has said that the team would look for the HIV and hepatitis infection location.
