Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going on a tour of America on the 21st June. Preparations are going on all over America regarding his visit. Before the PM’s visit, the US Capitol Hill, the center of America’s power, is hosting America’s first Hindu-American summit. It was organized on Wednesday 14 June. Many US lawmakers took part in this program.
Begin with Vedic chants and prayers
The special thing about this summit was that it started with Vedic chanting and prayer. The Hindu-American summit was organized to draw the attention of American lawmakers toward the problems of the Hindu community living in America. This summit was named American for Hindus. This summit was organized with the support of 20 Hindu organizations.
Hindus have the power to choose the next president – US lawmaker
Speaking at the event, US Congressman Richard McCormick said that Self-realised Hindu Americans have the power to truly select the next President of the United States. He said, “Once you start investing in and really engaging politicians, you will see how truly powerful you are. You will unleash the potential of forming future generations, not just of your own community, but every community in America.”
He said, “You literally will write laws. You will set a vision for America that will set us up for success for decades and decades and hopefully for centuries to come. It will benefit not just your children but every child in America. That is why I love this community.”
Hindus in America are far behind politically – Dr. Romesh Japra
Dr. Romesh Japra, Founder and President of American for Hindus said, “This is the first-ever summit we are holding for political engagement. We have done a lot of great work in every field but politically, we are way behind. We feel that Hindu Americans are being discriminated. That is why we thought it is a good idea to bring all the organizations together.”
