BJP leader Vasundhara Raje shouldn’t be penalized by the saffron party as a result of him, according to Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, since it would be a “injustice” to her. He made the comment while speaking during a news conference at the party’s headquarters. He was replying to a query on the BJP’s tardiness in announcing its candidate for chief minister of Rajasthan.
“This is a problem for the BJP internally. Vasundhara Raje shouldn’t be penalized because of me. The Chief Minister of Rajasthan said that doing this would be unfair to her.
Then-Chief Minister Bhairon Singh Shekhawat was overseas undergoing bypass surgery, and Shekhawat’s Speaker in Rajasthan mentioned overthrowing the government, which Gehlot, the state Congress leader, rejected.
“I even informed PV Narasimha Rao, the prime minister at the time, that this was incorrect. Gehlot defended Raje, who has been marginalized in the BJP due to signals of her closeness to him. “Recently, when my government was in crisis, an MLA close to Raje met me and said she also holds the same opinion that duly elected governments shouldn’t be overthrown, and this is all I said in Dholpur,” Gehlot said.
Gehlot’s claim that Raje had assisted in saving his administration at a rally in Dholpur recently brought to trouble for Raje. On Pilot’s aspirations to become CM, he also cautioned him, saying that it is advisable to avoid running for CM in the Congress since the candidate never wins.
“We will accept whatever the high command chooses, and the Gandhis have confidence in me. The Rajasthani CM implied that there must be a rationale to this. The Congress has not yet revealed their candidates for Rajasthan, according to Gehlot, who also said that all selections will be made by agreement.
