According to BMC authorities, Mumbai will soon have at least 50 food trucks operating 24/7 across the city’s seven zones.
Since 2021, the food truck policy has been placed on hold. According to sources, BMC on Monday stated that the central purchasing department has been instructed to issue contracts and invite bids.
According to authorities, each of the six zones may now operate up to seven food trucks, while the seventh zone will be allowed to run eight food trucks.
Apparently, subject to approval, these food trucks may run around the clock and offer any sort of cuisine. Officials from the fire department and the health department would have to give their consent, and a ward-level monitoring committee would have to approve them.
The location for the food truck should ideally be close to a college or high-football region. The food trucks will not serve any raw fruits or vegetables, according to regulators, who also said that they cannot be positioned within 200 meters of a restaurant.
After obtaining licences from a number of BMC departments, the trucks would reportedly be permitted to run with LPG, microwaves, and electric cooking appliances.
DELHI FOOD TRUCK POLICY
Manish Sisodia, who was Delhi’s deputy chief minister at the time, said last year that Delhi will introduce a food truck policy similar to those in the US and the UK first in the nation.
Despite the fact that food truck business is not a recent development in India, Sisodia said in August 2022 that no state in the nation has implemented any policies to simplify this industry and boost job prospects.
