Yellow Alert Issued; Assam Flood Scene Grim | Weather Forecast; Mumbai, Thane See Continuous Rain

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow signal for Mumbai and its neighboring districts of Thane and Palghar for Monday and Tuesday (June 26–27), signifying heavy periods of rain. Despite the delay, the monsoon is set to sweep over Maharashtra shortly.

On Saturday morning, Mumbai had pre-monsoon rains that lowered the temperature in the city. According to reports, the downpour’s intensity would progressively rise over the following four to five days.

After experiencing some early delays, the monsoon is currently moving forward at a healthy clip and has already touched down in certain areas of Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, the Northwest Bay of Bengal, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar, as well as some areas of Eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Assam’s flood situation worsened as a result of the ongoing rains. Over 4.88 lakh people are being affected by the flood in Assam’s 16 districts, and the number of fatalities related to the flood increased to two on Friday. In addition to forecasting severe rain in several areas of the state over the next two days, the meteorological office has also issued a “yellow” notice.

IMD FORECAST FOR THE UPCOMING 5 DAYS:

Northeast and neighboring East India: According to the IMD’s most recent advisory, the area will most likely see light to moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorms and lightning throughout the course of the next five days.

“Single heavy to very heavy raindrops are highly likely to occur throughout Odisha from now till June 26.Assam and Meghalaya on June 26 and 27, Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram through June 27, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on June 26, Odisha on June 27, and Jharkhand on June 25 and 26 are also at risk for isolated heavy rains, according to the IMD.

Northwest India: From June 25 to June 27, it is expected that Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and East Rajasthan will have light to moderate scattered to moderately widespread rainfall, isolated thunderstorms, and lightning. These areas include Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh.

It is also very possible that there will be isolated heavy to very heavy rain in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and East Rajasthan from June 25 to 27, as well as isolated heavy rain in Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand till June 27.

IMD said that throughout the area (Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha) for the next five days, light to moderate generally widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rains, thunderstorms, and lightning is quite possible.

The agency predicted “isolated extremely heavy rainfall over Chhattisgarh on June 24.”

South India: Over the course of the next five days, there is a very good chance that a few isolated thunderstorms and flashes of lightning may occur.

Coastal Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, and Mahe are all expected to see isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall from June 25 to June 27.On June 26 and 27, sporadic heavy rainfall is also possible across inland Karnataka, according to IMD.

West India: Thunderstorms and lightning are very possible across the Konkan and Goa region till June 27. There will likely be light to moderate, widely dispersed to widespread rainfall with occasional heavy to very rains.

It is also highly possible that there will be light to moderate, sporadic to widespread rainfall, isolated thunderstorms, and lightning across Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada through June 27 as well as over the Gujarat Region on June 26 and 27.

It is also possible that there may be sporadic, heavy downpours across Gujarat on June 27 as well as over north Madhya Maharashtra from June 25 to 27.
