In light of recent technological advancements and the emergence of AI-powered tools, YouTube declared on Wednesday that it would take rapid action against technically manipulative material that seeks to mislead viewers and damage the real world.
Ishan John Chatterjee, Director, India, YouTube, said during a media conference that YouTube has well-established community rules in place that define what sort of material is permitted on the site.
In response to a question on YouTube’s content moderation strategy against the background of AI progressing to the point where people on screen are being replaced by AI avatars and other newage technologies, he said: “Content moderation is a critical challenge for YouTube and also for society as a whole as tech evolves.”
“One of the regulations is about disinformation and material that is technically modified to deceive users and hurt people in the real world, in addition to diverse things like violence and graphic content…We will take action against it since it is not permitted on our platform, he said.
He asserted that YouTube is dedicated to faithfully executing its regulations around the world, particularly in India.
To ensure that we are able to tackle this challenge, “We are continually upgrading our procedures and technology. Sundar Pichai stated two topics we would be looking at earlier this year… In order for viewers and us to utilize AI to identify it, there will be watermarks and meta data on AI-generated material, he added.
According to Chatterjee, combating disinformation is a crucial issue for the network.
“In doing that, we have made major investments and advancements. But we are aware that there is always more to be done, so we will continue to invest in this area, he said.
In addition to sharing insights into how the creativity of Indian producers together with changing fan tastes are defining key trends in production, consumption, and pop culture, YouTube, which is marking 15 years of the introduction of a localized edition in India, also provided some more information.
In addition to providing artists and viewers with a secure environment in which to interact and create, YouTube said it is continuing to enhance its creative tools, revenue-generating opportunities, and support for meaningful audience engagement.
The goal of creating YouTube the finest platform for long-term success will remain our one emphasis, said Chatterjee.
He added that production has become frictionless and that consuming is multiformat and seamless while outlining the important themes that demonstrate the effect of Indian producers and fans in influencing the digital video landscape and creator economy in India.
More creative tools have sparked a growth of formats, which has led to an increase in storytelling, size, and influence.
In fact, according to a poll conducted in India, 69% of Gen Z like it when their favorite producers provide content in a variety of forms, including short form, long form, podcasts, and live streaming.
Consumption has become limitless and seamless with 71% of consumers viewing videos about a particular subject they are interested in in several forms, according to a statement from YouTube.
