Ten individuals were detained after a lady and her putative lover were paraded and partly tonsured in Lepakshi village, Andhra Pradesh’s Sri Satyasai district, for allegedly engaging in extramarital relations, a police officer said on Tuesday.
Hussain (30) and Shabana Bhanu (32) were paraded through the streets of Tilak Nagar in Lepakshi on Monday by Hussain’s wife, Nazia (24), and her family on the grounds that the two were having an extramarital affair. Hussain was partly tonsured, bound, and tied up.
S V Madhava Reddy, the superintendent of police for Sri Satyasai district, told PTI that “we have arrested 10 people and remanded them on Tuesday at Lepakshi bus stop near Rehmatpur circle in Hindupur town.”
Nine of Nazia’s relatives were also detained in accordance with relevant IPC Sections.
The police claim that Hussain’s wife and his in-laws repeatedly advised him and Bhanu, who had been divorced from her spouse Irfan two years before, to alter their ways and put a stop to the relationship. However, they disregarded it, and as a result, the family used harsh punishment to punish the two people, according to the police.
