A 15-player roster for Australia’s five-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series against India, which begins in Vishakapatnam on November 23, was revealed on Saturday.
Throughout the series, Matthew Wade will lead the team. Steve Smith and David Warner, who were absent during the South African series, have joined the team. Because of his injuries, Ashton Agar was disregarded.
After the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, fast bowlers Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood, as well as multi-format all-rounders Cameron Green and Mitchell Marsh, will return home to get ready for the upcoming summer Test series against Pakistan and the West Indies, which begins in Perth eleven days after the last Twenty20 match in India.
In naming the team, selection chair George Bailey was happy with the blend of veteran players and up-and-coming talent. He exuded confidence and said he was sure they will have enough equipment for the five games.
“We hope that this experienced squad will continue to develop into key players for our T20 group, as it includes a mix of players who have made their international debuts,” Bailey said.
“We are excited for Matthew Wade to take the helm for this series since he is a leader in the group and has led the squad before. Similar to Mitch Marsh in the South Africa series, this is a fantastic chance to expand on our breadth and depth of knowledge in foreign leadership.
Josh Inglis, Sean Abbott, and Tanveer Sangha, the traveling reserve, are among the World Cup players who will stay in India. Tim David, Matt Short, and Nathan Ellis, the stars of the Indian Premier League, will fly to the subcontinent to join their Australian colleagues after the World Cup.
Upon the conclusion of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, eight players from Australia’s team will still be in India.
The following players are in the Australia T20I squad: Glenn Maxwell, Tanveer Sangha, Matt Short, Steve Smith, Marcus Stoinis, David Warner, Adam Zampa, Jason Behrendorff, Sean Abbott, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Spencer Johnson, and Matthew Wade (captain).
