In accordance with “Operation Kaveri,” which was started a week ago to evacuate Indians trapped in a violent Sudan, India on Sunday welcomed home another group of 186 individuals.
“#OperationKaveri is still reuniting Indians with their families.” Arindam Bagchi, a spokeswoman for the External Affairs Ministry, tweeted that a flight with 186 people had landed in Kochi.
229 Indians landed in Bengaluru on Sunday compared to 365 arriving in Delhi the day before.
In two groups on Friday, 754 persons who were part of the evacuation effort landed in India.
According to official statistics, there have already been 2,140 Indians returned to their country.
The Indians were returned to their country from Jeddah, in Saudi Arabia, where India had established a transit camp for the refugees. On Wednesday, the first group of 360 evacuees flew back to New Delhi on a commercial flight.
On Thursday, a C17 Globemaster plane from the Indian Air Force brought 246 Indian refugees to Mumbai.
In accordance with “Operation Kaveri,” India has been busing its nationals from Khartoum’s combat zones and other difficult places to Port Sudan, where they are then transported to the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah by heavy-lift transport planes and ships from the Indian Air Force.
The Indians are being transported from Jeddah back to their homes through either commercial planes or IAF aircraft.
In addition to keeping in contact with the MEA’s headquarters in Delhi, India has established separate control centres in Jeddah and Port Sudan, and the Indian embassy in Khartoum has been working with them to coordinate.
The army of Sudan and a paramilitary organisation have been engaged in violent warfare that has allegedly claimed 400 lives.
The commencement of “Operation Kaveri” to evacuate and repatriate the trapped Indians from Sudan was last announced by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday.
