After a three-year-old boy died and about 30 people became ill in the Raichur district after allegedly drinking contaminated water, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday gave instructions to officials to take immediate action, including making sure those who were hospitalised received proper care and giving compensation to the child’s family.
According to government authorities, the event occurred on Friday in the hamlet of Rekalmardi in the Raichur district’s Devadurga taluk. As many complained of having diarrhoea and vomiting, several were sent to the Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and the Arakera Community Health Centre in Devadurga.
Sources claim that the afflicted individuals drank water from a contaminated water tank. According to some sources, a pipeline breach caused sewage water to contaminate drinking water.
The Chief Minister’s Office claims that after learning about the event, CM Siddaramaiah called the CEO and ordered him to act right away to provide safe drinking water.
In addition to directing the Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer to provide compensation to the family of the dead, the chief minister has asked authorities to take prompt action to treat those who have been unwell properly.
He requested that authorities look into the issue and submit a report after seriously taking notice of the claims that residents in the villages had become ill after drinking tainted water.
Officials have been given orders by the CM to visit the location right soon and perform a complete inspection, submit water samples to a lab for analysis right away, and promptly get a report. Based on the findings, the villagers will undergo a thorough health examination and receive the appropriate care.
The CM instructed staff to supply clean drinking water, lock down polluted water sources, compensate the family of the deceased, and take all necessary precautions to prevent a repeat of the occurrence.
