The deployment of NMM Lines 2, 3, and 4 using a modified mode of transport, MetroNeo, in place of standard gauge Metro has been approved by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), the project’s nodal agency. The announcement comes as the metro agency is ready to launch Line 1 once it receives the final regulatory nod from the Commission of Railway Safety (CMRS). Six elevated stations along Line 2 of the Navi Mumbai Metro would link Khandeshwar (7.12 miles) to MIDC Taloja. Line 3 would travel 3.87 kilometres through three elevated stations from Pendhar to MIDC Taloja, while Line 4 would travel 4.17 kilometres from Navi Mumbai International Airport to Panvel.
A tram bus system with overhead traction and rubber tyres is called Neo-Metro. The buses will have air conditioning, a system for automatically closing doors, level boarding, plush seats, a system for announcing passengers, and an information system with an electronic display. It has less system requirements than a conventional Metro rail system and is smooth, rapid, dependable, and cost-effective. When line 1 is operational, CIDCO plans to start construction on the three remaining lines of 2, 3, and 4, with the aim of completing the Neo Metro in the next two years. “The comprehensive project reports and the Rs 1 billion credit line are prepared. Contractors will be chosen soon after the request for bids, according to a CIDCO spokesperson.
In the coming months, the standard gauge Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 from Belapur to Pendhar will be opened for service.
Belapur, Sector-7 Belapur, Science Park, Utsav Chowk, Sector 11 Kharghar, Sector 14 Kharghar, Central Park, Pethapada, Sector 34 Kharghar, Panchnand, and Pendhar Terminal are the 11 metro stations along the 11.1-km line.At Taloja, there will be a vehicle depot for repair, and at Panchanand and Kharghar, there will be two traction sub-stations.
