The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has received crucial components from a commercial aerospace business located in Mumbai for its future Chandrayaan-3 mission.
Godrej Aerospace has produced satellite thrusters for the lunar expedition as well as liquid propulsion engines like the Vikas and CE20 at its factory in the Mumbai suburb of Vikhroli, a senior business official said on Monday.
The ISRO, an organization that falls under the Department of Space, has been a partner of Maneck Behramkamdin’s firm for more than three decades, according to the assistant vice president and business head of Godrej Aerospace.
According to Behramkamdin, “the collaboration first started with the production of crucial components to meet ISRO’s needs, and then it expanded to liquid propulsion engines.”
In addition to taking part in ISRO’s other projects, Godrej Aerospace made significant contributions to the Chandrayaan-1 and -2 and Mangalyaan space missions.
Chandrayaan-3, scheduled to launch at 2:35 PM on Friday, July 14, is a follow-up mission to Chandrayaan-2, which crashed-landed in September 2019 as a result of a software error.
This will be India’s third lunar trip, making it one of a select few nations to have embarked on such a challenging effort.
Behramkamdin said that the business is spending Rs 250 crore to construct a new plant in Khalapur in the Raigad region of coastal Maharashtra.
The firm will be able to improve its technical expertise and satisfy the escalating needs of the space industry thanks to the superior production and assembly capabilities of this greenfield site, he said.
