The MLAs of the Nationalist Congress Party have received two different directions for the Maharashtra Assembly session starting today. Ajit Pawar has asked the MLAs to sit with the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance. While NCP Chief Whip Jitendra Awhad has asked the MLAs to sit on the chairs of the opposition.
Jitendra Awhad has requested the assembly speaker not to allow the 9 rebel MLAs and the rest of the MLAs to sit together. Jitendra Awhad has written a letter to Rahul Narvekar, Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, in which he said, ‘Apart from the 9 MLAs who took the oath, the rest of the MLAs should be made to sit separately. NCP is in opposition and we want to sit there.
Narvekar recently said that in the case of the Nationalist Congress Party, there is no clear distinction between who is in power and who is not. He had said, “There will be a lot of discussion and debate on how to decide who represents the real NCP.”
Earlier this month, in a shocking move, Ajit Pawar was sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra within hours of resigning from the post of Leader of Opposition. On Sunday, Ajit Pawar held a meeting with loyal NCP leaders at his residence Devagiri Bungalow. After this he met Sharad Pawar at YB Chavan Center.
Jayant Patil, who attended the meeting with opposition parties before the monsoon session, was also called by Supriya Sule to the YB Chauhan Centre. It is noteworthy that Praful Patel and Sunil Tatkare, along with other nine MLAs who took oath, were also present in this meeting. While Sharad Pawar, Supriya Sule, Jitendra Awhad and Jayant Patil also attended the meeting. This was the first meeting of the Ajit Pawar-led faction after rebelling against Sharad Pawar on 12 July.
