Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, said in front of the legislature on Thursday that the opposition BJP intended to stir up trouble by sowing discord among the populace in order to cast the state in a negative light ahead of the general elections next year.
Banerjee said during a debate in the state house that she had evidence indicating that the BJP’s plotting was outlined during a recent meeting with key officials of the party’s state unit held in New Delhi.
According to her, the saffron party also intends to support “any party that can split the Trinamool Congress votes.”
“I am aware of the BJP conference scheduled for the capital. I won’t mention the participants by name. They want to split society along racial and religious lines. They want to draw attention to purported crimes against women and members of weaker groups like SCs, STs, and Rajbangshis in order to paint the state in a negative light, she said.
Discussions were conducted over two adjournment motions that the BJP had introduced in the state house and that Speaker Biman Banerjee had approved.
The BJP moved for two adjournments, the first to examine recent crimes against women in the state and the second to discuss the violence and deaths that took place during the recently held panchayat elections.
Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the opposition in the legislature, proposed the motion.
However, the BJP members waved black clothing and staged a walkout once the chief minister began to talk on the motion and mentioned power outages at a counting station in the Nandigram seat during the 2021 assembly elections.
Did you forget what occurred in Nandigram two hours after the lights were turned off? said Banerjee.
In the Nandigram seat, the CM had fallen short of Adhikari.
Adhikari questioned Banerjee’s right to talk on the Nandigram election problem while the case was still pending while speaking to reporters at the state assembly’s press corner.
He sought the deletion of Banerjee’s comments made in the House.
“I wanted to thank the people of my constituency in the assembly after winning in Nandigram. It was a pending situation, therefore I was not permitted to comment. But today in the assembly, the CM discussed this, Adhikari added.
The TMC doesn’t subscribe to democracy. By stealing votes, they were able to win the election. People will exact revenge. The governing party avoids conversations while the opposition wants them.
“However, today, we presented the motion that had been waiting citing the worsening of the law and order situation, led by Manoj Tigga. The BJP leader stated, “I appreciate the Speaker for approving our request and permitting a discussion.
Later, BJP lawmaker Ambika Roy said that the chief minister brought up the Nandigram matter to draw attention away from the violence in the recently held panchayat elections, which was the major focus of the adjournment petition.
The CM debunked the saffron party’s claims that there was anarchy in the state during the rural elections and spoke after the BJP MLAs headed by Adhikari departed the House.
She said that since the election dates were revealed, 29 individuals had died.
“I have the right to comment on and inquire as to how the outcomes at Nandigram altered after the power outage. Why are you all now retreating? Seven locations in West Bengal had clashes, notwithstanding your (the BJP’s) claims that 22 districts saw violence. They are merely attempting to damage the reputation of our state, according to Banerjee.
The CM also mentioned crimes against women in BJP-ruled states, claiming that West Bengal had less of these crimes than other states.
