The NIA on Saturday arrested Akif Atiq Nachan, who was part of the Maharashtra module of the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS), from Bhiwandi in Thane district. Akif is the sixth person to be arrested in this case. A case was registered in June this year in connection with the IS module in Maharashtra.
Last month, the NIA had arrested Tabish Nasir Siddiqui from Mumbai, Zubair Noor Mohammad Shaikh alias Abu Nusaiba from Pune, Sharjeel Shaikh and Zulfikar Ali Barodawala from Thane and Dr. Adnan Sarkar from Kondhwa, Pune.
Many materials seized from Akif
The NIA said Akif was arrested after several raids in Bhiwandi. Several materials have been seized from him. Akif was involved in the making and testing of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) for carrying out terrorist acts. He had also given shelter to two other terrorists.
Pune court extends ATS custody of four terrorists
A Pune court on Saturday extended till August 11 the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) custody of four persons linked to terror outfit Islamic State (IS). Wanted Mohammad Imran and Mohammad Yunus were arrested. After this ATS arrested Simab Nasruddin Qazi.
Zulfikar Ali Barodawala, arrested by the NIA in Thane, was also taken into custody by the Pune ATS in the same case. The ATS produced the four men in court on Saturday. Meanwhile, during the investigation, ATS officials seized a car along with two pistols from Kondhwa area on Saturday evening. The seizure was made after questioning Mohd Imran Khan and Mohd Yunus.
