According to rail authorities, a signal failure at Churchgate in south Mumbai on Tuesday morning affected the Western Railway’s (WR) local train services.
Some customers said that the signal failure severely impacted the WR suburban services during morning rush hour and caused the local trains—regarded as Mumbai’s lifeblood—to be at least 15 to 20 minutes late.
A technical issue with a signal on the up (Churchgate-bound) fast line at 8:50 am forced the authorities to divert trains to the up slow line for the following 30 minutes, according to a Western Railway official.
At 9.22 am, the signal was restored, and train service on the route began again, according to the official. Between Churchgate (in south Mumbai) and Dahanu (in neighboring Palghar) stations, the Western Railway runs suburban services.
