A 26-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his house in Maharashtra’s Nagpur city after his wife demanded a divorce from him. The police gave this information on Tuesday. The incident took place on Monday afternoon at Ramteke Nagar under Ajni police station area, an official said.
Mohit Sukhchand Chowdhary, a native of Balaghat district of neighboring Madhya Pradesh, hanged himself from the ceiling at his rented accommodation, the official said. The victim, who works as a painter, got married last month. But the couple had frequent quarrels and his wife returned to her parents’ house, the official said.
Chowdhury’s wife eventually sought a divorce from him, he said. Police recovered a suicide note from the spot, in which Chaudhary cited his intention to divorce his wife as the reason for the extreme step, the officer said, adding a case of death has been registered. Police is taking further action.
