Nat Sciver-Brunt discussed how she helped Mumbai Indians win the first Women’s Premier League 2023 championship with a game-winning effort in the championship match. Sciver-Brunt hit an incredible 60 runs* off only 55 balls, including seven fours. When Mumbai Indians lost their openers early in the 132-run chase, she assumed responsibility for it.
In order to rebuild the chase, she and captain Harmanpreet Kaur exchanged a vital 72 runs for the third wicket. The English all-rounder scored the clinching runs as well, giving Mumbai a victory with three balls remaining.
Sciver-Brunt credited Harmanpreet and Amelia Kerr for relieving some of her strain as the pursuit became challenging.
That was quite unique. I’m glad I was able to persevere when the going got tough. Harman and Amelia relieved the strain that I was under as I tried to become fairly tough. At the post-game presentation, Sciver-Brunt remarked, “I felt if I remained till the finish we’d go through.
She also implied that she would do everything to take home the first WPL trophy.
“We let up too many runs in the last three to four overs, but it kept the game exciting. (Winning the Cup) means everything. Being together with the Mumbai Indians and a particular bunch of females was a truly meaningful occasion, she said.
Hayley Matthews, a standout for the Mumbai Indians, was chosen the MVP of the competition for her all-around play with the ball. She won the Purple Cap with 16 kills under her belt and collected three wickets in the championship match.
In her allotted four overs, she recorded the stunning stats of 3 for 5.
Matthews said that she preferred to get the titles than the individual honors.
“I’m happy to contribute, and I can work with both a bat and a ball. I’m always working to become better, and the circumstances aid my off-spin. It’s important to reclaim the trophy, but winning with the Mumbai Indians makes me happier. Whatever is most effective on that particular day (on whether she wants to be recognized for bowling or hitting),” she noted.
