As part of their investigation into the shooting on July 31 by an RPF constable who allegedly killed his senior officer and three passengers in the moving train, a Government Railway Police (GRP) team has recreated the crime scene inside the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Superfast Express at a car shed here, an official said.
He added that on Tuesday, the GRP team from the Borivali Railway Police Station inspected the carriages where the murders had taken place while at the Mumbai Central car shed where the train was halted.
The murder scene was reconstructed with key witnesses and top Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials present, according to the official.
However, he said that RPF constable Chetan Singh (34), who is suspected of using an automatic weapon to kill three people riding in separate bogies of the Mumbai-bound train as well as his boss, Assistant Sub-Inspector Tikaram Meena, was not there during the exercise.
Singh is now being held by the GRP.
The GRP informed the court in their plea on Monday that they intended to take the accused to the scene of the crime while also requesting an extension of Singh’s police detention.
The investigation team has CCTV video from the train that it is reviewing in order to learn more about the horrific deaths, the reason for which is yet unknown.
According to the source, the team has also documented eyewitness testimonies.
On the outskirts of the financial capital, at Palghar station, the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Superfast Express was when the shooting happened in the early hours of July 31.
After passengers pulled the chain of the train that had stopped close to Mira Road station (on the Mumbai suburban network), Singh was subsequently apprehended while attempting to leave.
The dead passengers were named as Abdul Kadarbhai Mohammed Hussain Bhanpurwala, 48, of Nalasopara in the Palghar district; Asgar Abbas Sheikh, 48, of Madhubani, Bihar; and Sayyad Saifuddin, 48, a resident of Hyderabad who was originally from Bidar, Karnataka.
A five-person committee has been formed by the Railway Board to conduct a separate investigation into the event.
