After a pro-Khalistan organization scheduled a march toward Chandigarh on Independence Day, security has been stepped up.
According to sources, the Quami Insaaf Morcha (KIM) has declared that its supporters would march on Chandigarh on August 15 in order to seek the release of Sikh inmates who have already completed their jail terms.
Following the declaration, the Chandigarh and Mohali police stepped up security along the border, particularly at the Sector 52-53 light point where protestors had partially stopped the road, according to the reports.
The move to step up security, according to the reports, is intended to stop any unfavorable situations and preserve peace and order in the region.
Conflicts between protestors calling for the release of Sikh inmates and police officers occurred in February of this year.
The incident along the Chandigarh-Mohali border resulted in the injuries of over 33 police officers and the destruction of many police vehicles.
The group’s members have been protesting for a number of months in order to call for the release of Sikh inmates, notably Balwant Singh Rajoana, who was found guilty of murdering former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh, and Devinderpal Singh Bhullar, who was found guilty of involvement in the 1993 Delhi bombing.
In the meanwhile, it is believed that Khalistani supporters vandalized the Canadian temple on Sunday.
According to accounts, the tragedy has caused a wave of distress among the nation’s Indian minority.
According to reports, the Lakshmi Narayan Mandir in Surrey, one of the oldest temples in British Columbia, had “anti-India” posters posted on its walls and gate.
According to sources, the posters demanded that Canada look into India’s “role” in the June 18 killing of Khalistani supporter Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
In June of this year, unidentified assailants shot and killed designated terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who led pro-Khalistan organizations Khalistan Tiger Force and the Canadian branch of Sikhs for Justice (SFJ).
This was the fourth instance of temple vandalism this year in Canada.
In Ontario, a Swaminarayan temple was vandalized in April of this year.According to the report, anti-Indian graffiti was written on a temple in Brampton in January and the Ram Mandir in Mississauga, Canada, in February.
According to the article, India has voiced alarm over the increasing activities of pro-Khalistan activists in Canada.
The Center has cracked down on groups and people attempting to inflame separatist sentiment in several nations.
