According to fire brigade authorities, two people were killed and six others were injured after the slab of a 20-year-old residential structure fell in Navi Mumbai’s Nerul neighborhood on Thursday.
Around 8.50 p.m. on Wednesday, the third floor ceiling slab of the four-story Tulsi Bhavan building at Shirsole in Nerul fell, according to reports. A worker and another person were killed as the slab collapsed on the first and second levels, according to divisional fire officer Purushottam Jadhav.
According to him, the slab fell in the “B” wing of the structure, which has four wings. According to another fire official, some civil work was in progress on the third level when the slab fell.
On the ground level of the building is a tailoring store, and the owner shut the door and departed a short time before the occurrence, according to him.
Babaji Shingade has been named as one of the dead, according to Jadhav. According to him, the wounded people have been taken to a nearby hospital.
According to the official, the building has been evacuated and its residents are now staying at the Ahilyabai Holkar Samaj Mandir hall in Nerul.
After being informed, the disaster management team and fire engines from Nerul and Vashi hurried to the scene to conduct rescue operations and afterwards clean the debris.
Rajesh Narvekar, the commissioner of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, and other top authorities also arrived at the scene to oversee the rescue and relief efforts.
According to a different local authority, the structure was legitimate and had the necessary licenses. The autopsy on the corpses has been transferred to a government hospital. According to Jadhav, the local police have already reported a case of an accidental death.
