Sandeep Lamichhane, a 23-year-old former captain of the Nepal national cricket team, is a well-known cricketer in Nepal. He has recently been thrust back into the public eye due to his suspected involvement in a court case for raping a child, especially in light of his participation in the Asia Cup 2023.
A situation in Gaushala-26 involving a person with a code name has drawn attention from the general public. Sandeep Lamichhane, the individual in question’s accused attacker, has played in international cricket tournaments and received backing from government officials and the general public despite being in hiding for many months.
Through CCTV video from the hotel where Lamichhane was staying with the suspected female, police were able to corroborate his presence there. The Kathmandu District Court authorized Lamichhane’s detention on September 8 in order to aid in the inquiry.
Information about the Sandeep Lamichhane case:
Recent revelations indicate that Lamichhane and his group fabricated papers to offer to the court in an effort to portray the girl as not a juvenile and imply that their meetings were voluntary. The court, however, recognized this fraud and has moved on with a more thorough investigation.
Additionally, the uproar surrounding the case was heightened when Sandeep’s team revealed the minor’s identify via several social media platforms.
Parallel to this, demonstrations have started in Kathmandu against the Cricket Association of Nepal for allegedly letting the accused continue playing cricket without enough oversight. Many individuals participated in these demonstrations to express their outrage.
The girl, who first got to know Sandeep as a fan, insists she was completely unaware of what had happened. The group Maiti Nepal, which works to protect Nepali girls and women from different sorts of abuse, such as domestic violence, trafficking, child prostitution, child labor, and other forms of exploitation, is presently taking care of her.
Sandeep Lamichhane, who is renowned for his right-arm leg spin bowling abilities, has played for numerous Twenty20 franchise teams across the globe, including the Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League, and the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League.
