In Mumbai’s Andheri neighborhood on Thursday, a fast automobile being driven by a 21-year-old guy struck and killed a courier delivery boy. The police have detained the accused, a student, in connection with a DUI case.
Around 11.30 am on September 7, there was an accident. Suresh Harijan, an eyewitness who was working with his coworkers at a construction site close to the accident scene, described the scenario to the police. They apparently saw a vehicle “speeding” down the road run over a person. Harijan and his coworkers arrived at the scene of the collision in time to see the victim unconscious.
The victim was named as Paresh, a bachelor in his mid-forties, according to the police.
According to a report, Chirag Lade, the accused, was arrested for carelessness and intoxicated driving while operating a vehicle owned by a friend of his father. A magistrate court ordered his appearance, however he was subsequently freed on bail.
The eyewitness described how they observed the automobile and a small boy and his companion getting out of it in his police report. The young man (Lade) transported the victim to Holy Spirit Hospital in Andheri (E), where the medical staff declared him dead before admitting him.
When the suspect, an Andheri East resident, was put into police custody, he admitted to having a few beers at a friend’s house before getting behind the wheel. Before appearing in court, he was also sent for a medical check related to the matter.
A Vadodara lady was detained by the municipal police last month on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and misbehaving around law enforcement. Near the Gokul Party Plot on Vasna Road, the lady struck another car while operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
Later, a video of the event went viral in which the lady is seen berating and attempting to strike the police officers as they drive.
