On Sunday, the conflict between security forces and militants in the Gadole forest region in the Kokernag area of the Anantnag district of Jammu & Kashmir reached its sixth day. Three police and Army soldiers have already lost their lives in what was first thought to be “two-three engaging security forces.” In order to help the people on the ground, drones have been deployed. A senior Army officer went to the scene of the fight on Saturday.

1. According to the Army, security services have used drones and quadcopters to hunt for spies and attack alleged terrorist hideouts. Drones were utilized as an extension for surveillance and other activities at the scene of the encounter in Kokernag, Jammu & Kashmir. For the last three days, security personnel have been conducting operations against a cell of terrorists in the region, according to security sources reported by news agency ANI on Saturday.
2. The ground commander gave Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi a briefing on the operation that is now taking place in Kokernag. According to a statement from the Army, “Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi today reviewed the operational situation on the ongoing operations at Kokernag forest area in Anantnag.”
The statement said, “He was briefed on High-Intensity Operations by the ground commanders, where High-Tech Equipment is being employed for surveillance and firepower delivery coupled with the high effect of precise fire being used by the soldiers.
3. To attack the parts of the forest where security forces believe terrorists are hiding, they are utilizing improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
4. On Wednesday, a shootout with the terrorists resulted in the deaths of Colonel Manpreet Singh, the commander of a Rashtriya Rifles Unit, Major Ashish Dhonak of the Indian Army, and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Humayun Bhat.
5. On top of a hill in the forest, the terrorists are camped out in a cave. The terrorists are extending the violent conflict thanks to the vantage position.
6. Reportedly, the officers who died in the line of duty were slain while the military made an effort to climb the hill in order to strike the terrorists.
